In the photography business we’ve long thought of “enthusiasts” as those who are really into taking pictures. But today, almost everyone is really into taking pictures, and enthusiasts are those who are really into other hobbies — and who are buying new cameras that are best suited to capturing their activities.
iON makes mountable “action cameras” with WiFi connectivity that have been widely used by skateboarders, bikers, skiers, and other extreme athletes. What other users will adopt this type of photography?
In this episode of the DIMAcast, iON America CEO Giovanni Tomaselli debuts the third version of his company’s camera — with a 12-megapixel sensor that provides improved light sensitivity and wider dynamic range — and the importance of sharing through iON’s cloud service.

Dodd Camera began as Dodd Co. more than 120 years ago. The Cleveland, Ohio-based business began as a drafting and engineering supplier, branched into photography in the 1920s, and over the decades has evolved into a 17-store photo specialty retailer. In this episode of the DIMAcast, Dodd Camera President Mark Leonard – who started with the company as a stock boy in 1978 – shares more about the interesting history of this company, how it has remained successful for so long, and how it has expanded in recent years to new markets and new services.

Significant sales growth in a declining market . . . How does Leederville Camera beat its peers? Could it be the three baristas on staff? Or the clean store without ‘messy’ manufacturers’ displays? What about the displays showing how your camera can make large images on canvas, metal, paper or a variety of substrates? Could it be the magic of multiple buyers in the store encouraging others to buy? Maybe the $269 for two hours of private tutoring? Listen to this week’s DIMAcast. Then look at the transcript with over 30 images of the store and you decide what makes Lidio Fiore and Leederville Camera unique. Most importantly, look at your own business in light of Lidio and his family’s philosophy. Lots of profitable lessons in this week’s DIMAcast #364 for November 4, 2013.
