Volunteer pro photographers will capture free portraits of family members of active duty members of the military at The Big Photo Show, through the PMDA’s Portraits of Love program. Working in cooperation with the USO and Shutterfly, the portraits will then be sent to deployed servicemen and women all over the world, and each family will receive a free portrait to keep for themselves. Hundreds of families are expected take part in portrait sessions held throughout the two-day event. “Thanks to the Portraits of Love program, more than1,000 family portraits were sent around the world during 2012,” said Jerry Grossman, Executive Director of the PMDA. “Military families are encouraged to contact their local Los Angeles USO office to arrange for a portrait session at The Big Photo Show.”
On this episode of the DIMAcast, Grossman tells us how the program got started, what it means to those in the service who receive a photo, and how it exemplifies the true meaning of photography.
